Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for warehouse space in Brooklyn? Here are answers to the most common questions we hear from businesses exploring Portal Brooklyn for their storage, fulfillment and logistics needs.
How Much Does Warehouse Space Cost in Brooklyn?
Warehouse pricing varies by size, but Portal's membership structure simplifies the decision. Our spaces range from 200 to 2,000+ square feet with monthly rates structured by tier. All-inclusive pricing means one flat monthly rate with no separate utility bills, no surprise fees and no hidden costs.
What Is the Whale Building?
The Whale Building is a historic waterfront landmark at 14 53rd Street in Sunset Park where Portal Brooklyn operates. Originally built as the Whale Oil Company headquarters over a century ago, this industrial property has been transformed into modern warehouse space. Our seventh-floor location offers panoramic views of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor. The building maintains its character while providing contemporary amenities like loading docks, parking and updated infrastructure.
Where in Sunset Park Are You Located?
We're at 14 53rd Street on the seventh floor of the Whale Building. The location is four blocks from the 53rd Street R train station, making it easy to reach from anywhere in the city. You can also access the D, N and R lines at 36th Street. If you're driving, we're right off the Gowanus Expressway (I-278) with direct access for truck deliveries. Sunset Park sits between Industry City and Bay Ridge along the industrial waterfront. The building offers on-site parking, a major advantage.
Is Brooklyn Cheaper Than Manhattan for Warehouse Space?
Yes. Brooklyn offers significantly more space for your dollar while keeping you close to the city. Manhattan locations like our Chelsea facility prioritize proximity to Midtown, which comes at a premium. In Brooklyn, you get spaces up to 2,000+ square feet with loading docks, parking, and full logistics infrastructure at rates that work for growing businesses. You're still within 20-30 minutes of Manhattan with operational flexibility and square footage that cramped Manhattan spaces can't provide.
What's Included With Rent at Portal Brooklyn?
Your monthly membership covers utilities, high-speed Wi-Fi, access to coworking space or private offices, daily carrier pickups, loading docks, on-site staff support and community networking events. We also handle shipping and receiving coordination and connect you with technology partners who offer discounts on critical shipping software and insurance. The all-inclusive structure means you receive a single invoice, eliminating the need to juggle multiple vendors.
